Di Di

Di Di is an assistant professor of sociology at Santa Clara University. She completed her Ph.D. in sociology at Rice University in 2019, focusing on the intersection between religion, science, gender, ethnicity, and ethics in cross-national settings. Her research explores how social institutions and individual identities are conditioned by national context and by gender, ethnicity, religion, and profession. Methodologically, she relies on in-person interviews and ethnographic observations to identify specific mechanisms, using surveys and statistical analyses to examine the broader picture. She has been involved in projects that examine academic scientists’ religiosity and spirituality in different national/regional contexts, such as France, Italy, Taiwan, the U.S., and the U.K. Findings from these projects appear in journals such as The Sociological Quarterly, Socius: Sociological Research for a Dynamic World, and Public Understanding of Science. She also co-authored a book, Secularity and Science: What Scientists Around the World Really Think about Religion (Oxford University Press), with several other scholars.
